Independence Day in Dominica

On its flag you’ll see the sisserou parrot, an endangered species found only there. On November the 3rd you’ll find its people celebrating their independence from the occupation of French, English, and Spanish empire. They don’t have a king. Their colors are white, yellow and green. Do you already know what country we’re speaking about? Dominica finally became a republic in 1978, when it won against the British occupation and finally could establish itself as an independent country. This is celebrated every year with traditional Creole events, but the most amazing thing about this celebration is that the following day is also considered bank holiday because it’s “Day of Community Service”, a day to clean up together the mess of the post-party. An admirable gesture.
